Movie Monday: Strange Cargo (1940)

Strange Cargo is one of those films that you see one time and all you can do is replay it in your head afterwards. Although this movie is considered a classic, not many people have heard of it. That is why today’s Movie Monday is dedicated to this highly underrated movie!

Strange Cargo is full of rich symbolism. It’s about right and wrong, and understanding that the right thing may not always be what is best for your specific situation. The boat scenes are symbolic of life and the waves we all go through on a daily basis. Among all of the hidden meanings in Strange Cargo are complicated characters trying to figure out whether they should choose a good path or bad path.

The acting in this film is unforgettable. Every single actor casted in Strange Cargo was spot on. The push and pull between Joan Crawford and Clark Gable is magnetic. This is the kind of acting that makes you forget where you are, and completely surrounds you. It puts you in the middle of the movie and you begin to feel the intensity of the plot. Personally, this is one of my favorite Clark Gable and Joan Crawford films.

Strange Cargo is definitely a must see! I’m not going to pretend it is not an intense film, this isn’t a movie to watch for lighthearted days. It’s a film as thick in plot as you could ever ask for and, like I said above, will remain in your mind for a longtime afterwards.

Much Love,

Sarah
