Long Flight Essentials
A new year, a new adventure! The day that this blog post is published, I will be busy roaming the streets of Rome, Italy! Since my first trip abroad in late 2018, I have learned just what someone might need to be comfortable on a long flight. For that reason, I thought today would be a good opportunity to share some of the items people I know have told me they use for long flights and the items I use!
Carry on Bags
This may seem obvious, but back when I took my first ever long flight (to lovely London, England in 2018) I did not know that an carry on bag would be so nice to have. A lot of people have enlightened me that it is helpful having something beside you to hold your passport and anything else you might need with you on the flight. There are a ton of different carry on bags to choose from, and some people even bring a small suitcase with them as a carry on item. But I remain a fan of small carry on bags!
Stay Fresh on the Plane
Being cramped into a small area of a large plane among other people (unless you are lucky enough to be traveling first-class) is not a natural position to be in. It is best to make it your very own space as much as possible! There are many ways you can do this, but I personally like to take a sanitizing wipe and clean the area around me. That may sound like germaphobe behavior (and it probably is), but it makes me feel a little more comfortable because at least I know that there is a slight bit more of a clean slate.
Hand Sanitizer
Another slightly germaphobe behavior of mine while traveling is obsessing over having hand sanitizer with me at all times. The last thing I would want to do while exploring a new city/country would be to get sick so the first line of defense is hand sanitizer. My personal preference is something lovely smelling from Bath & Body Works, but really any type of hand sanitizer works!
Passport Holders & Toiletries Bags
Organization is key when it comes to traveling so naturally it makes sense to have your passport and luggage all clearly labeled. A passport holder can really be a lifesaver for those who are forgetful or leave things for the last minute and really need to know where their passport is so they can grab and go! Also, having a toiletries bag for your carry on luggage is another organizational tool that helps keep sanitizing wipes and hand sanitizers alike safe from leaking on important documents or items.
Other Niceties
Outside of what I have already listed, I know some people like to bring makeup on a flight to touch up their look for landing or even makeup removal items to keep their face clean. There are also people who like to bring their own earbuds on a flight, so if that is you check out the nice case for earbuds that I found! Personally, I like to keep things pretty simple and leave what I bring on a flight down to the bare necessities.
However you travel, the most important part is safety and having fun. Of course, life likes to send the occasional late flight as a curve ball, but that is what makes memories. I am hoping that there will not be any flight delays like the last time I flew long distance, but if there is I am ready to embrace any interesting addition to the trip that may happen!
Stay tuned for my full review of each day of the Rome trip!
Much Love,
Sarah
