How to Curl Your Hair Using a Flat Iron
Two of the most requested blog posts for Faintly Familiar have been for my skincare routine which I already wrote about, and how I curl my hair! My go-to hairstyle is curling it with a flat iron, and I use this tool as my main resource for a lot of reasons which I will address in this post.
Although it has taken me a while to getting around to write this post, I am excited to be featuring this long awaited subject today! So here we go! This is how I curl my hair with a flat iron.
Step #1
The best way to protect your hair from heat applied when styling it is to use heat protectant. I love Garnier products of all sorts, and this heat protectant has been my go-to item for curling my hair forever! After spritzing your hair with this heat protectant, just brush it all through so your hair won’t be sticky and wet from the protectant any longer and then you are ready for step two.
Step #2
I have a couple of different sizes when it comes to the Conair flat iron, but really the size of the flat iron depends on how long your hair is. So for short hair you might need a smaller flat iron and for longer hair you can used flat irons larger than one inch.
I want to add that the Conair is is both affordable and works really well! It heats up quickly if you need it too and it also cools down pretty fast once you are finished and you can store it away pretty soon after.
The main reason I use a flat iron to curl my hair on a everyday basis is because it is so versatile! You can curl, straighten, or even make soft waves in your hair with this one tool. If you have a trusted flat iron, it will never fail you.
While curling your hair, you will want to take a strand of hair and act like you are straightening it until the very end where you will slightly turn your wrist in one direction or another. Voilà! You have your first curl!
Step #3
Finally, after you have a head full of hair that you are happy with, this will be when you can apply some good old hairspray. The hairspray I have been using for years is the Big Sexy Hair brand and it does wonders! This hairspray lasts all day long and, as long as it doesn’t rain, most weather conditions.
So there you have it! Curling my hair is not a long or complicated experience thankfully, and everyone’s hair is different so what works for me might not work for someone else. However, I am thrilled that so many people have requested this blog post because I love doing my hair and it was really fun to share this routine.
Much Love,
Sarah
