What I'm Wearing

Must Have Items to Help You Survive the Cold this Winter

Staying warm and winter weather gear in general has been on my mind a lot lately. When it comes to clothing, there are several must have items I have learned help to survive the winter. Since I have has to learn with trial by error, I want to save everyone here in the Faintly Familiar Family the trouble of going through the same thing.

This blog post is a list of the different items that I rely on to get me through the cold months. Some items seem more obvious than others, however, all of these are absolutely must have!

A Thermal Beanie

If it were not for thermal beanies, I honestly would probably never go outside again. Beanies are so much more than just a wintertime accessory, they are a wintertime necessity! They keep your ears warm and they are perfect for when it gets surprisingly windy outside.

The key to finding the right beanie is to look for one that is has a thermal lining. If the beanie is just knit, that will not keep you nearly as warm as it would if the beanie had some kind of thermal lining.

Thermal Socks

You might be thinking, “Of course I wear thermal/fuzzy socks around the house! Who doesn’t??” I’m not talking about wearing these socks around the house, no sir. These types of thermal socks are to keep your toes safe and warm as you weave through the snow outside. However, I must admit, thermal socks do make the perfect thing to wear when relaxing at home, these socks make an even better item to keep your feet warm in the winter!

Boots

Boots are a more obvious choice when it comes to winter weather must have items. But there are so many different types of boots out there to choose from. There are the classic Ugg style of boots that are soft and cozy, and then you have duck boots that are a favorite of mine. In fact, duck boots make the perfect combination with the thermal socks that just appeared on this list!

Whatever style of boots you rely on to get you through the winter weather, it is important to have at least one pair of boots. No sweater ensemble is complete without a cute pair of boots!

Lots of Sherpa

If there is anything that makes me feel better after a long day spend in the freezing cold outside, it is wrapping myself up in the most sherpa I can find! There are so many different ways to embrace the wonderfulness that is sherpa, however, my favorite way is with a classic pullover. Sometimes when it is still not frigidly cold outside, a sherpa pullover is all you need to keep you warm!

Thermal Gloves

Like thermal socks, thermal gloves are so underrated! A good pair of gloves can really make all of the difference when it comes to the winter wardrobe. The key, once again, is to find truly lined or thermal gloves. Just having thin knit gloves won’t do the job to keep you warm. It need to have that extra layer in order to make it truly worth wearing.

I hope this list will help you all prepare for the impending winter weather, and hopefully it has given you some style inspiration too! This is by no means a comprehensive list of items everyone should have, it is just a list of some of the things I use. So, if you have anything new or cool to share that helps keep you warm in the winter weather, please share it in the comments! I would love to hear from you!

Much Love,

Sarah
