Movie Monday: Jungle All the Way (1996)
Today’s Movie Monday is not going that far back in our film time machine. The holiday classic being featured this week is Jingle All the Way from 1996. There are a lot of iconic moments that have come from this movie, however, Jingle All the Way doesn’t always seem to make the list for must see movies for the holiday season.
I think the measure of a good holiday themed movie is one that has a story that can stand outside of the season it is put into. So, without the holidays, would Jingle All the Way be as good or memorable? My answer is yes, I think it would be!
What makes this movie so clever is the fact that this dad (played by Arnold Schwartzenegger) had never heard of this toy action figure and then suddenly he spends his entire day in pursuit of finding it for his son. That concept can be funny whether it is the child’s birthday, a gift for some other holiday, or just the toy that is popular at the time. What follows in this holiday film is a series of antics and funny skits that builds up to a pretty iconic ending.
Personally, I think Jingle All the Way is Arnold Schwartzenegger’s best movie. Now, this may be a controversial opinion but I stand by it. Arnold displays a nice range of emotion and comedic ability that simply isn’t seen in other movies like The Terminator.
If Jingle All the Way isn’t apart of your list of must see films every holiday season, add it right away! This movie will add a lot of humor your season movie watching list.
Much Love,
Sarah
