What I'm Wearing

Snow Day Style

If you have been watching the news as of late you will have heard about how the Midwest (where I happen to live and go to college) just received one of the largest snowstorms in years. Of course, with my luck it happened the weekend before the new semester begins and I must trudge across campus in it. So this got me thinking of all the different ways I could keep warm and still stay cute in the follow week. Today on Faintly Familiar I wanted to share a few of my ideas with you all!

A Classic Winter Look

Although I don’t advise going into the cold without a coat like I did, this classic winter look consists of a wool sweater, beanie, leggings, and duck boots. Normally I would add my black Guess puffer jacket to complete this look, but for the sake of this blog post I rushed outside with no coat and rushed back into my house. It was so nice to see it actually snowing! We haven’t had a lot of winter weather other than cold this season so the snow was a rather beautiful addition to the day!

A Layered Look

This snow may have missed the holiday season by a couple of weeks, but that doesn’t mean we can’t add a little bit of that leftover holiday flair to a layered winter look. For me, scarfs are the perfect way to add and subtract from basic winter ensembles. Layering on a scarf (or hat) can really reinvent an outfit so this is a great little trick to remember when you are in a rush and just want to throw together a simple outfit while also staying warm. This is definitely one of my favorite ways to dress in the winter, and you will often see me wearing something like this walking to my classes on campus.

A Sophisticated Winter Look

The snow was blowing into my eyes while taking photos that is why I have nearly shut eyes in this picture. That plus the fact that snow is so reflective and bright without sunglasses, the struggle was very real.

If you are heading to a more professional event or to the office, definitely invest in a nice overcoat. Mine is a Calvin Klein and it is so warm. I like to bring this coat out for major events on cold days or when I have a presentation I need to make in a class. The black sweater underneath really goes well with the black zipper and plum shade. But this wouldn’t be Faintly Familiar style without adding a pop of color. That is why I turned to the yellow beanie and gloves I am wearing! These are always such a cute pairing with maroon, burgundy, plum, or purple.

As I gear up for classes to begin and a whole new semester, I am also strategizing on how exactly I will be staying warm. All of these ensembles laid out above seem like great options, and there are a million ways to mix and match each one of them. Hopefully this gave you a little inspiration when it comes to winter fashion!

Much Love,

Sarah
