My Hair Journey with Formulate

You may be wondering why I am holding a bottle of shampoo and conditioner in the photos above. Well, today I want to talk a little bit about my hair journey with the awesome brand Formulate! Before we get started, though, I want to include the link here real quick in case you want to enter my giveaway for Formulate. For years I have struggled to find the right products for my hair. I know in the photos shared here on Faintly Familiar and on social media it may not seem that my hair would be a lot of work but it is. All of my life my hair has been very fine. Although I have a lot of hair, (and I mean a ton, and I have the baby pictures to prove it) the actual hairs are very thin and fine. This has led to flat dry hair.

In addition to the flat hair, my scalp seems to be very oily. If I go more than twenty-four fours without washing my hair, it isn’t a pretty sight. My hair begins to look more like I haven’t washed my hair in two or three days! Not even dry shampoo helps the situation! All of this just adds to the flat hair issue so I wash my hair as consistently as possible everyday.

Enter in Formulate. When this brand approached me to do a partnership with them, I looked through their website and purpose (I always like to thoroughly check out each brand I work with because I only want to promote things I believe in). Immediately I learned about how they are passionate about using natural ingredients and they believe that perfecting their formula is key to the happiness and success of their customers. All of these factors are the reason I am writing this blog post today.

The first step in the Formulate process is taking the hair “quiz”. This quiz is easy, quick, and fun to take! You seriously learn so much about your hair just taking the quiz. It made me examine what I wanted, the state of my hair currently, and even what I wanted my hair to smell like!

As you can see some of my goals include oil control, scalp health, mending the split ends I may have because I enjoy doing my hair, and of course I want my hair to be glossy (like the commercials).

Then it was time to choose a scent! There was a plethora of options, but I was so tempted by the coconut scent that I almost when with that one. However, with further inspection in at all of the options, I decided to go with the green apple and rose scent. After selecting what you want your shampoo and conditioner to smell like you get to choose the strength of that scent. It was fun to feel involved in the process of creating these products! It definitely made me feel like the shampoo was mine!

At the very end of the quiz, before you order your shampoo and conditioner set, you get a glimpse at some of the ingredients that are going to be incorporated into your shampoo and conditioner set. Later when you set arrives you get a sheep of paper that has all of the ingredients listed in detail and the date the set we created!

Fast forward only about a week later and I had officially received my set of personalized shampoo and conditioner! The cool Formulate package felt as personalized as the contents inside. It would be an understatement to say that I was excited!

Knowing that I had the opportunity to put my two cents in how this set of hair products would be crafted was one of the best parts. Also, knowing that these products would help me achieve something I was never able to before with the trial and error process of giving different products and brands a try gave me hope. The same kind of hope you have when starting any kind of new and exciting journey. One that puts a giant grin on your face and makes you do a little happy dance when you think about it.

The first thing your eyes are greeted with when you open the box is the cute and welcoming sheet of paper that contains your name, what hair type you said you had in the quiz, your hair goals, and all of the ingredients that are included in creating your personalized shampoo and conditioner! Honestly, looking over the sheep of paper made me feel like there was a lot of care put into my haircare products. Just knowing every detail of what went into this set also gave me comfort. If you asked me what was in my old shampoo you would definitely get a blank stare.

Looking further into the Formulate package, you then see the beautiful personalized shampoo and conditioner set! Now, I am studying advertising at my university and the packaging really got this ad woman part in me excited! The shape of the bottle not only fits perfectly with their brand and the shape of their logo, but it is also so much easier to pickup instead of the typical circular shape. Another aspect of this packaging, and the whole brand really, is the Formulate logo. I love how they have the “F” as their main symbol because it fits so perfectly with my Faintly Familiar! Formulate and Faintly Familiar sure does sound good together!

Anyway, I am getting a little off track here. I will say though that one of the most impressive parts of these Formulate bottles is the braille that is included near the top of the bottle. Although I am not able to understand braille myself, I can only imagine that one bottle says shampoo and the other says conditioner. I love that they include this part on the bottles because I have never seen anything like that from haircare products ever before!

One last cool feature that comes just from the packaging of Formulate is the pumps they include for your convenience. The old shampoo that I used to use was a squeeze bottle so the addition of the pump for both shampoo and conditioner made this experience a lot more convenient!

Now it was time to start using these products. The first time I used them, I could definitely tell my hair felt a lot lighter. This airy feeling must have been from the cleaning out of the old shampoo’s toxins and chemicals. Besides that, I could definitely smell that lovely green apple and rose smell that I chose! For this being the first time using both of these products, I was thrilled with some of the immediate results. It definitely told me that what I chose on the quiz was being enacted as we went along.

After the second and third day of washing my hair with the Formulate shampoo and conditioner set, I could tell a definite difference in my hair. It was fuller, shinier, and overall more healthy looking. My hair also took on a deeper shade of brunette than I had previously. Not too sure what this mean, but I do remember telling Formulate in the what hair color I have so I can only assume that this was a result of the natural ingredients encouraging my natural hair color.

On the third day of using Formulate, I decided to give the old more than twenty-four hours without washing my hair a test. This test was to see if my hair got oily or if it became flat. I can confidently say that during this long period of time, when I would normally get flat and greasy looking hair, my hair was normal. By normal I mean that it didn’t become greasy or at least the level of greasiness I was used to. It also didn’t become flat. I was impressed by the long lasting power of Formulate and how they delivered on each and every one of their promises.

I will probably never go back to the old shampoo I used. The results I got from using Formulate were too good for me to give up! Below is a photo of my hair before and after using Formulate. Let me know if you agree with me in the amazing results!
