Michael Kors Fall 2019

These photos are not mine. They can be found here.

I’m going to be honest here. This collection from Michael Kors was unlike anything we had ever seen from him before. Normally, Kors keeps it pretty simple, sleek, and clean. This collection saw a complete 180, and what his unique sense of retro was.

This New York Fashion Week provided a lot of modern takes on retro which is fun and also sometimes a little distracting. Although you all know I love a good throwback, I felt like this particular collection was a bit messy. The overuse of mixing prints and just how loud some of them were really made this collection feel heavy.

Now, there is nothing wrong in itself with bold prints, mixing prints, or using them throughout the entire collection. But if there wasn’t so much layering with coats, hats, belts, and tall boots that all too had their own print or unique detail this collection would not have suffered from that heavy feeling so much.

Also, I feel like this one lone sequined purple gown just does not fit within the world that the rest of this collection was made in. Yes, it is retro too so that part makes sense, but otherwise I have no idea where this dress drew inspiration from. However, this one gown was probably my favorite piece form the entire runway.

If there had been more wide colors and shiny sequins I think I would have been much more satisfied with that style of retro coming from Michael Kors. The rather muted designs he showed just doesn’t feel as authentic to who he is as a designer.

Much Love,

Sarah
