Flamin-go Big or Go Home

There are a whole lot of flamingos this summer! Everywhere you look it seems that a flamingo theme will be there whether it’s home decor, fashion, or fun trinkets. Today I am going to take a deeper look into this phenomenon and dissect why this is happening in 2019 instead of any other year.

I would say that a major reason the flamingo has gotten such a popularity boost is because of this year’s Met Gala theme. Camp was the confusing and exciting theme for the 2019 Met Gala, and we saw celebrities go all out for this over the top aesthetic. Flamingos are flamboyant creatures, ones that really stand out [Get it? Because flamingos stand. ;)].

There is no doubt in my mind that the hot pink “red carpet” featured at Met Gala this year had a large influence on the flamingo becoming the hot summer symbol that it has. Another impact element to the flamingo becoming such a relevant creature was the huge show Lady Gaga put on when she arrived at Met Gala this past year. That hot pink ball gown sure had some reminiscent elements of a flamingo, in my opinion.

Flamingos are also a really easy symbol to create fun trendy items with like a pool float that is a giant flamingo. They also serve as a great source of inspiration reminding people to stand tall!

Pink is my favorite color so to say that I have fully embraced this flamingo trend would be an understatement. Exhibit A is the neon flamingo light shown in the thumbnail of this blog post. That neon light proudly sits in my room, and I love the pink hue it gives my room when I turn it on!

Flamingos can be found coming in all different shapes and sizes. Exhibit B is the tiny flamingo print found on this cute grey t-shirt I got from Old navy. This is one of the more understated ways you can embrace the flamingo trend for summer.

Whether you like pink or flamingos or not, this has definitely been a highlight for the summer. Honestly, as long as the camp aesthetic has a hold on the fashion and design industries, flamingos will have at least some sort of area to shine in the spotlight.
