Making Classic Sigmon Christmas Peanut Buttercups
For many years, homemade peanut buttercups have been a coveted and much anticipated item for the holiday season. I have been helping my Mom makes these Christmas goodies since I was about six years old. Back in those days I would stand on a chair just to see over the counter top.
After all these years, the tradition continues and it stays connected to the holiday season. Although I do not need a chair to stand on anymore, some things about making these peanut butter cups with my mom never changes. Like how I am the proud owner of the title Peanut Butter Manager, and how my Mom is the CEO of Chocolate. These job titles may seem silly, but we take our dessert making duties seriously, I promise.
Today’s blog post is a step-by-step process of how my Mom and I make our beloved Christmas peanut buttercups!
Step #1
Melt the Chocolate
The first step to success when making Sigmon peanut butter cups is the melt the chocolate. This may seem obvious, but unless you are used to melting chocolate it also might not enter your mind. So, the first thing my Mom and I do when we make these holiday classics is make sure we start melting the chocolate!
Step #2
Mix Peanut butter and Powdered Sugar
Using just peanut butter might not be as satisfactory if it were just peanut butter. What we do to get around that plain peanut butter taste we mix a little powdered sugar in to make the flavor more interesting. This is the part where you may expect some measurements, but honestly we just guess so it takes a little intuition.
Step #3
Put Melted Chocolate in Molds
You’ve got your peanut butter and you’ve got your melted chocolate, the logical next step is to put some of that delicious chocolate in your peanut butter molds! I cannot stress to you enough how important it is to make sure you cover all areas of the mold. If there are missing chocolate areas, it is going to make the peanut butter ooze out. Some people may like that, but others may not. I like my peanut buttercups nicely contained so my advice is to make sure the chocolate covers the mold.
After you have all of your molds filled, head on over to the freezer. Putting your molds in the refrigerator will not cool the chocolate enough to put the peanut butter in the new molds so the freezer is definitely the best option. Again, this is a moment in which I wish I had a specific amount of time that it would take to freeze the chocolate, but really you just need to wait until you see the chocolate is completely dry.
Step #4
Fill with Peanut Butter
This step is my favorite because it is my area of expertise! I am the Peanut Butter Manager, after all! This step is simple. All you have to do is take two little spoons to scoop up some peanut butter, place the scoop of peanut butter in the chocolate mold, and then see if you need any more or less. Sometimes I need to take peanut butter out of the molds because no one wants the peanut butter to be squishing out of every nook and cranny. Just make sure that the peanut butter is below the top of the chocolate mold.
Step #5
Cover with Melted Chocolate
Right after you place the peanut butter in the chocolate molds, head back on over to the melted chocolate and pour a little on top. Don’t worry about the chocolate being or looking messy, that just makes it more unique. In the end, these peanut butter cups are never going to be a masterpiece for an art museum. Instead, just focus on making these peanut buttercups complete not perfect.
Once you have your new melted chocolate to top the peanut buttercups, just put them back into the freezer! Again, there is no specified amount of time to have them in there, just make sure that they are dry when you take them out of the freezer.
Voila!
There you have it! Congratulations! You just walked step-by-step through the process of how to create the iconic Sigmon peanut buttercups. These are a holiday favorite for my family and friends, but I think these would be delicious any time of the year!
