Princess Diana’s Dresses at Kensington Palace
One of the most exciting attractions for me while we were in London was seeing the Princess Diana dress exhibit at Kensington Palace! It made not only my day, week, month, and year but my WHOLE LIFE!!! I’m not really joking when I say this, I am a huge fan of Princess Diana because of her kindness. Seeing her dresses in person made the whole idea of her a lot more real than ever before.
At the exhibit they also had quite a few sketches of the dress designs hanging on the walls, so all of those photos are in another blog post. For today, however, we will be focusing on the actual dresses that were on display at the stunning exhibit. For your viewing pleasure, here are all of the photos…
Thought it was neat that as I was taking a photo the suit Princess Diana wore to the photo call on her honeymoon with Prince Charles. Had to give the camera a little wave in this second photo!
I remember reading somewhere that this particular ensemble from Princess Diana, and the hat she wore with it, was particularly unpopular and considered one of the few fashion missteps she made as Princess of Wales.
Love this quote by the Princess of Wales!!
In this portion of the exhibit, there were a ton of amazing quotes by others who knew and worked with Princess Diana. I tried to take photos of all of the quotes so I will share them all here! Don’t worry there are still more dresses to show you below!
This dress is one of my all time favorites from the entire collection that Princess Diana wore! I read somewhere that the Princess was the one who started the tradition of ladies in the British Royal Family to wear brands and include special meaning for other countries when touring them. With this dress, the Princess of Wales suggested that they include Saudi Arabia’s national bird. She wore this evening gown to the states banquet she and the Prince of Wales attended while touring Saudi Arabia. Besides the incredible meaning that goes along with this dress, I think the simplicity of it and how the designers decided that the birds should be the standout feature of this gown.
I will admit, as much as I loved seeing the dress Princess Diana wore in Saudi Arabia, seeing this iconic gown really made me smile! This is the beautiful velvet dress Diana wore while visiting Washing D.C. and danced with John Travolta in! This evening gown alone is so iconic, if I had only seen this dress at the exhibit I still would have been super ecstatic!
I had to get my photo taken with this Dres in particular! The reason this dress is so special, in my opinion, is because it symbolizes the moment she found the women she should be after the marriage to Prince Charles. Princess Diana found her confidence and was ready to begin a full, new, and exciting life after the divorce. Her strength was incredible!
Those are all of the dresses and all of the photos I took at the dress exhibit. The whole experience was amazing, hopefully sharing these photos with all of you will make it a fun experience for everyone too! Like I said above, there will be another post on the blog soon with all of the photos of the sketches that were hanging up at the exhibit, but I wanted those photos to have a special post.
I am going to leave you with these photos of the Princess Diana inspired wallpaper that was hanging in one of the hallways of Kensington Palace.
Much Love,
Sarah
