Moms Weekend 2019
This past weekend was Moms Weekend on the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign campus, and it was sadly my brother’s (he is a senior) final year to celebrate. Today I wanted to share a little bit of what we did this Moms Weekend and how we kept a family tradition going strong.
I know that typically the weekend is for catching up on sleep, but for the past five years we have volunteered for Campus and Community Day that just happens to fall on Moms Weekend. So we got up early to go put labels on packages that would later be filled with rice and oats and given to folks who are hungry.
This tradition has been an annual highlight of mine and is a sign of spring to me. I always mark time by the different traditions that we as a family uphold, and this volunteer activity is one that really shows me how fast this year has already flown by!
After we were done with our time volunteering, the whole family decided we would see what the craft show had to offer. It is always so much fun to see what is new at the different booths! There were fun lamps, sweaters and jewelry from Ireland, fudge, and handcrafted jewelry.
As we made our way through more of the displays, we eventually ran into this adorable backdrop that was set up for moms and students to take photos with. Of course, my brother (Jacob) and I had to have our photo taken with our Mom together! Especially since this will be Jacob’s last Moms Weekend as an officials student.
Moms Weekend is the perfect way to mark springtime, especially since Mother’s Day is rapidly approaching! Also, it is always fun to continue traditions like volunteering at Campus and Community Day. I am so thankful to have spent a lovely weekend with the whole family and to celebrate Mom with all of the amazing things she does everyday!
Much Love,
Sarah
