I’m going to be honest, I feel pretty lukewarm about this Marc Jacobs spring 2020 collection. It was not the worst runway, and it was not the best runway. However, there are a few things we can gleam in particular from this spring collection and take with us for when we go shopping.

First of all, I want to point out that the colors of all kind have reigned supreme so far during both New York Fashion Week and London Fashion Week. From what I can tell, pastels are still a dominant feature for spring runways, but there is a surge of brighter more in your face colors taking hold of the fashion industry.

Example: the bright yellow suit pictured above is not only one of my favorite designs from this collection, but also something that is not seen very often for any season of fashion. If you are a classic rock fan like myself, you will recall that Mick Jagger wore something similar looking to this yellow suit which gives it a bit of a retro flair (if you are not familiar with this reference, definitely Google the yellow suit Jagger wore).

It would have been very easy for the Marc Jacobs brand to tone down the shade of yellow used on that suit since it is a spring collection, but they didn’t. I applaud Marc Jacobs for taking a bolder color style to spring! This is the kind of fundamental shaping of fashion that pushes the boundaries of this entire industry.

Second, something else I want us all to take away from the Marc Jacobs runway is that in spring 2020 we will be seeing a lot of long, duster style coats. Now, this may take several different forms, but one constant will be the length of the coat. If you happen to have a long trench coat, leather coat, or any other kind sitting in the back of your closet, spring 2020 will be the time to break it back out! The texture and material or the coat is not really what matters when it comes to this future style trend, it is the length of the coat. Think anything below the knees and you will be fine.

Lastly, I want to just point out that Marc Jacobs, along with several other designer runways, showcased a whole lot of sparkly! For instance, the purple sequined suit pictured above is reason enough to embrace this fun style for spring! I think it is interesting that spring is slowly being given the opportunity to wear more sparkle, and I absolutely love it. Normally, sequined outfits are seen as something we go all out with for New Years Eve or something like that, but who says you can’t wear your favorite sequined outfit just to enjoy a nice day outside as the weather slowly warms up in the spring?

So, there you have it! If you look through all of the designs seen on this runway, it may come across as a bit confusing since this collection was missing some cohesive. However, I still feel like there are some important takeaways to learn for spring 2020.

Much Love,

Sarah
