Floral Stan Smith Sneakers
If you follow me on Instagram, you saw me unbox these cool sneakers and promise that I would write a blog post about them. (If you don’t follow me in Instagram, be sure to check out my profile at @sarahgsigmon) Since I am a woman of my word, here is the post that I promised! For a while now I have been looking for a cute new pair of sneakers. Now, as you probably already know, I have very specific taste so this presents a little bit of a challenge. I searched high and low at all of my favorite places to go shoe shopping with no success. Thankfully, I…

Here on Faintly Familiar, I like to keep all of my lovely readers up-to-date on all of the latest trends in fashion. Faintly Familiar is os far ahead of the trends that the neon trend that is taking over the spring 2019 street style was featured on here last fall! Today, I am here to share yet another fashion trend that will sweep the styles of spring and summer 2019! Mirror sunglasses are seeing a resurgence into this spring and summer’s fashion trends! Last year we saw sunglasses take on many different shapes and sizes, and while that is always going to be a small trend in sunglasses what really…

Movie Monday: Boomtown (1940)
Boomtown is one of those movies that you watch without expectations and then suddenly it ranks within you list of favorite movies to watch! The story in this film is as timeless any other, and the acting is superb. This Movie Monday I will be reviewing this classic that has quickly become one of my favorites! Before watching Boomtown, I had never seen Spencer Tracy star in a film before. It wasn’t until see this movie that I realized just how talented this man was as an actor. The way he captures a rather simple, sometimes hard luck guy is as timeless as this film. He balanced out Clark Gables…

The Faux Shearling Transitional Top
One of my favorite aspects of spring is not needing to wear a jacket or coat any longer. Living in the Midwest still presents the difficulty of cold mornings and warm afternoons. So, that is where the search for something that works for both weather types begins! I found this faux shearling sweatshirt by Poof! last fall, but I resisted wearing it during the bitterly cold months because it just wasn’t warm enough. However, since a jacket or coat is no longer necessary when walking around outside, this sweatshirt is just perfect to keep you both warm and cool! Another element of this top that I find endearing is how…

How to Wear the Neon Trend This Spring
Months and months ago I predicted that neon was slowly becoming one of the trendiest color schemes of fall 2018. At the time I didn’t know it, but I was also predicting one of the biggest trends of spring 2019, too! I know that pastel is typically the colors that come to mind when you think of spring fashion, but I am here to say that there is most certainly plenty of room in the colorful spring market for more bold shades. Today, I want to expand on that prediction by talking a little bit about how you can incorporate neon into your spring wardrobe. #1. Try a bright version…

Moms Weekend 2019
This past weekend was Moms Weekend on the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign campus, and it was sadly my brother’s (he is a senior) final year to celebrate. Today I wanted to share a little bit of what we did this Moms Weekend and how we kept a family tradition going strong. I know that typically the weekend is for catching up on sleep, but for the past five years we have volunteered for Campus and Community Day that just happens to fall on Moms Weekend. So we got up early to go put labels on packages that would later be filled with rice and oats and given to folks who…

Movie Monday: How to Marry a Millionaire (1953)
One of the best girl squad films of all time has to be How to Marry a Millionaire! This film is also one of my favorites because of the beautiful fashion we see. How to Marry a Millionaire is a movie that capitalizes on the color film era using fashion! These leading ladies in this film are department store models, and we see some truly beautiful designs. Not only are the colors striking, but the shape of each design are a mix of luxurious and simple. All of the looks we see in How to Marry a Millionaire are very much of the 1950’s time! Despite the storyline of this…

The “Bee Kind” Sweatshirt & Cute Designs
Today I am here to share another fashion trend that I have noticed a lot of here lately. As you can see, this sweatshirt looks pretty ordinary except for the one little detail near my shoulder. This little stitch detailing is what sold me on this top which I found at Old Navy. Over the past several weeks I have seen a number different types of sweatshirts that have all kinds of fun details in the same spot! This is an up and coming trend for the springtime and potentially in fall 2019. Definitely keep this trend idea in mine when shopping for clothes this season. I have seen several…

A Few of My Favorite Things Spring 2019
The “A Few of My Favorite Things” series here on Faintly Familiar is always a highlight for me each new season! Springtime brings a flurry of different accessories and products to use that just do not get their time to shine in the winter or fall. Today, I want to share a few of the things that will be getting plenty of use from me. The Illinois Ball Cap This week I shared the ball cap that I will be wearing most this summer which you can see in the photo above. The state themed ball cap trend has gained some speed this spring, but I have had this particular…

My Go-To Ball Cap this Summer
A the sun begins to peak around the clouds of winter, there are a few options for protecting your eyes. The most common prescription to sunny days are sunglasses, however, every now and then you will see someone wearing a ball cap. I typically do not wear ball caps or hats outside of wintertime beanies, but for those bad hair days there is really no better alternative. With the changing weather and windy days, I have found myself reaching for a ball cap more and more. Enter in my new favorite ball cap. This Illinois (my home state) hat I surprisingly found at Walmart. I wasn’t really looking for a…
