• Movie Monday: Desert Nights (1929)

It has been far too long since we have reviewed a silent film! So today is the day I change that! For this “Movie Monday”, I am discussing one of my favorite silent films (with one of my favorite silent film actors) Desert Nights. Desert Nights premiered the same year that another career changing film dubbed for John Gilbert. This was the same year that MGM (the movie studio that Gilbert was signed with at the time) would advertise what would become the “talkies”. Although this was a huge technological advancement for cinema, it ruined Gilbert’s career. Audiences considered his voice to be too feminine and high-pitched. Looking back now…

  • Snow Day Style

If you have been watching the news as of late you will have heard about how the Midwest (where I happen to live and go to college) just received one of the largest snowstorms in years. Of course, with my luck it happened the weekend before the new semester begins and I must trudge across campus in it. So this got me thinking of all the different ways I could keep warm and still stay cute in the follow week. Today on Faintly Familiar I wanted to share a few of my ideas with you all! A Classic Winter Look Although I don’t advise going into the cold without a…

Now that the winter season has officially begun, I want to continue my “A Few of My Favorite Things” series where I share with you a few of the products and brands that I have discovered or just love to use! This is one of my favorite series to write for on my blog because after these post go up on Faintly Familiar I always get a great response from my readers who want to share the products they love as well! Duck Boots I can’t tell you enough how much I love my Tommy Hilfiger duck boots! Although these boots probably wouldn’t be ideal to wear if there was…

  • Faux Fur Coats for the Luxury Look

This winter fashion has seen an influx of more luxurious looks. Between animal prints and faux fur, so much of street style these days has influences of old Hollywood. Back in the Silver Screen days, ladies would clamor just to say that they had a mink coat. Having a mink coat was a sign of your social and economic status in the United States. However, we know so much more about what goes into creating coats or other garments with real fur. Thankfully fashion has begun to embrace faux fur and they are no longer promoting using real fur on the runways. Enter in the faux fur coat trend. This…

  • Movie Monday: Gilda (1946)

For the first Movie Monday of 2019, we are starting out with a classic! The film Gilda is one of the most iconic and famous movies in popular culture. The entrance that Rita Hayworth’s character makes in this film is one referenced often, but never really recreated in the same way. You see, Hayworth that something special within her that translated with audience everywhere. It was especially impactful during the difficult World War II years. So let’s get this new year started off with the same amazing entrance that Gilda made! This was the second film I saw with Glenn Ford as a leading character (the first movie I saw…

  • New Year, Same Sarah

It would be really easy for me to open up my first “Look Book” style blog post of the year with talking about how I am going to change this year or to talk about my New Years resolutions. However, that is not the case with today’s post because technically I don’t have any resolutions for the new year. If anything, it is more like a life resolution! You see, if 2018 taught me anything it was that being able to adapt to change and finding your footing within all strange and different situations is so important! That is why I have resolved to be open to all opportunities not…

  • The Best of 2018

Today I would like to share a few of the things that Faintly Familiar readers were kind enough to tell me about. These are all of the different parts that made my readers’ 2018 special. So here we go! This is the best of 2018! Books The books pictured above are a few that Faintly Familiar readers also read in 2018. Not going to lie, Girl, Wash Your Face was everywhere this year and it definitely peaked my interest. However, I never found the time to sit down and actually read it. Maybe 2019 will be the year I read a bit more outside of college classes. Beauty Products For…

  • Sarah Sigmon: 2018 Fashion Highlights

I believe that a life well lived is one shared with others. This motto has shaped my 2018, and it has guided me in life. I also believe that fashion can make a moment that much more special, and the right outfit can do wonders for approaching different situations. I began Faintly Familiar with the purpose of sharing my passions and life with everyone. A large element of all of this is, of course, is fashion. So I would like to just take a moment and reflect on some on my favorite outfits from 2018! View this post on Instagram New post on the blog! Today I am discussing one…

  • Movie Monday: Bachelor Mother (1939)

Bachelor Mother was Ginger Rogers’ film debut after starring in nine movies with Fred Astaire. Both needed space from one another, and this was Rogers’ answer to the previous roles she had became known for. Of course nerves surrounded the burgeoning actress, however, this film proved that she could certainly hold her own without relying on Astaire as a counterpart. These photos are not mine. In addition to the clear success of Bachelor Mother, not many people know that this was not the first version of this film. Back in 1935, a German version was produced called Little Mother. Yet another version of the film was made in 1956, called Bundle…

  • What I’m Wearing for New Years Eve 2018

Sequins, sequins, and more sequins! It seems that New Years Eve is always about who can wear the most glitter. Well, this year I have decided to take a little bit of a more subtle approach to New Years Eve fashion. I am focusing my whole outfit around this chic and fun tweed jacket! If you look closely enough you can see there are indeed tiny sequins sewn into the fabric of this jacket. It adds that hopeful New Years feeling to every ensemble! In the photos above I paired this tweed jacket a couple of ways. The first one was with a cute black and white printed turtle neck,…
