Farewell to Summer 2019
Last summer I wrote a blog post saying goodbye to the summer season I had, and this year I want to continue that tradition. Summer 2019 was seasons filled with joy and growth for me personally. A lot happened and changed for my family, and this summer marked a large shift in all of our lives. One of the reasons this summer was so special was because of the job I had. I spent my summer at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign campus (where I am a student about to go into my junior year) as a tour guide for incoming freshmen and perspective students. This job allowed me to…

My Brother’s College Graduation
It is on graduation day your realize how fast four years can go by. This past weekend my big brother graduated from college. I remember the day we dropped him off at his dorm at the beginning of his freshman year, now he had graduated and on the job hunt. They grow up so fast! I was even more personally invested in the last two years of my brother’s undergraduate college experience since I had finally joined him on campus as a student at the University of Illinois. So, to sit on the sidelines and watch my brother Jacob graduate really puts a lot into perspective. There were two different…

Moms Weekend 2019
This past weekend was Moms Weekend on the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign campus, and it was sadly my brother’s (he is a senior) final year to celebrate. Today I wanted to share a little bit of what we did this Moms Weekend and how we kept a family tradition going strong. I know that typically the weekend is for catching up on sleep, but for the past five years we have volunteered for Campus and Community Day that just happens to fall on Moms Weekend. So we got up early to go put labels on packages that would later be filled with rice and oats and given to folks who…

The End of Summer
With the end of fair season comes the end of summer. We all knew this would happen sooner or later, the long days and warm nights were slowly slipping aways from us. The new semester is rapidly approaching now, and soon I will be back to cracking the books. Another fresh set of classes to figure out and conquer, but this school year will be different for me. I am looking forward to the first school year of having this blog to write! It has been such an amazing way for me to connect with others and a fantastic creative outlet! Nothing has allowed me to be this vulnerable yet…

64 Years of Marriage
My Grandma and Grandpa McFarland after 64 years of marriage. You know the old saying “Grow old with me, the best is yet to be”? Well, I am lucky enough to have seen this saying in action. This year, June 20th to be precise, will mark the 64th wedding anniversary for my Grandma and Grandpa McFarland. It is hard to believe they have been married that long because to me it sounds like a lifetime. Yet, I couldn’t possibly imagine either of them being with anyone else. The happy newlyweds on their wedding back in 1954. Both of them are in their mid-eighties, and they have seen so much history. The…
