The Trendy Glasses Shape of 2019 & 2020
The photos in this blog post are going to be a bit strange to my Faintly Familiar Family because they will be seeing me in an unusually form. Today I am wearing glasses. Yes, the frames are my prescription based frames and a style choice occasionally. I’m a bit of a free spirit so generally I like the freedom of wearing contacts, however, I do feel like a cute pair of glasses frames can really go a long way in making your outfit look cute. Even if they are not prescription based glasses, just a fashionable pair of frames can really be the perfect accessory! With the wide variety of…

Movie Monday: Laura (1944)
There has only been one Gene Tierney film that I have ever reviewed here on Faintly Familiar. But that is all about to change today! This Movie Monday is featuring the Tierney fanbase classic called Laura. This will come as a shock to a lot of Gene Tierney fans, but I do not love the film Laura. Although it does highlight some unique aspects of Tierney’s acting abilities, Laura does not hold the attention of an audience well enough for me. The plot is not well conceived and there is things are happening before the viewer can even decipher the entire situation. Laura is a noir film, so I do…

The Ponytail Beanie
Where I live, we have already has two pretty decent snows and the temperature has dropped below freezing. Naturally this means that it is time to break out all of the winter gear we have despite it still being technically the fall season. However, with all of the basics being covered, there still needs to be some innovation in your seasonal wardrobe once in a while. Enter, the ponytail beanie. Last winter I saw this style of beanie here and there, but it was quite the trend that it is this season. The nice part about having a ponytail beanie is that it keeps your hair from getting tangled in…

Mad About Fall Plaid
Plaid is definitely something that you will see quite a lot of during the fall the season. However, there are some ways to change up this typical pattern for the season! Today I want to share a take on the plaid that we have all become familiar with. Sherpa has made, what I would call, quite the surface in fashion. It feels like there is everything you could imagine being sherpa lined including gloves, hats, and jackets. However, the sherpa item you will be seeing most frequently is the sherpa pullover. Which brings me to the new twist on plaid that we are talking about today. In a unique twist…

The Two Toned, Double Trouble Sweater
Today, I want to share a not-so-spooky sweater that is perfect for the impending holiday season! Since Halloween is over, many people here in the United States are gearing up for another big holiday — Thanksgiving! This two toned sweater is absolutely perfect for both that holiday and this whole season of the year! Two toned colorful looks are always a lot of fun! The interesting part about this sweater in particular is that the colors used are just slight variations of the same shade. Besides that, it adds a certain level of sophistication to the two toned looked that we often see take a more bubblegum, candy type of…

A Few of My Favorite Things Fall 2019
Halloween is over, today is the first day of November, and here is the Midwest we have already had our first snow of the soon-to-be winter season. The calendar says we transitioned over to the fall back in September, which means it is time to share a few of the brands and products I have been loving this fall for this edition of “A Few of My Favorite Things”! Vests There was a small window of weather that was the perfect mix of cool and warm. This small window of beautiful weather calls for a vest! So, that has been my go-to look for the fall and it is really…

My Favorite Corduroy Jacket
Corduroy has made a surprising surge for the fall fashion trend of 2019! I am not only impressed by this highly underutilized fabric, but I am also pleased with the appreciation it is finally getting! This fall 2019, we are seeing corduroy being used in a number of new and exciting fashionable ways. Between pants, hats, and jackets like the one I am wearing, corduroy is making fall fashion a lot more interesting! It is so easy to mix and match a class sweater with corduroy pants or a white t-shirt with a corduroy jacket. The way I styled my look was with a classic white t-shirt and pair of…

Movie Monday: Blithe Spirit (1945)
In keeping with the spirit of Halloween, today’s Movie Monday is all about one highly underrated technicolor film that is absolutely perfect for this time of the year. I’m reviewing the classic film Blithe Spirit from 1945! Something about Blithe Spirit seems to stick to the audience watching whether that be via this film or on the stage. Maybe it is the acting or maybe it is because of the science fiction storyline. I like to think it is because of the hint of comedy this particular story likes to sprinkle into the character’s personalities. Kay Hammond is a real highlight for me in this movie! The irony is that…

Crunching Leaves & Color Block Fall Sleeves
Depending on where you live in the world, you may be noticing that the leaves on trees are in the process of changing from a vibrant green to burning orange. Pretty soon they will be gently floating to the ground, and the window of the fall colors will be over. So, it is now that we should embrace these tones and colors, and we should wear them until we absolutely cannot anymore! Embracing those autumn tones is exactly what I have decided to do today! This classic sweatshirt top I am wearing today has the perfect fall palette for this time of the year. A deep blue or classic navy…

Movie Monday: The Mummy (1932)
Halloween is the time of year where you see all of the usual suspects: vampires, zombies, werwolves, and mummies. Whether these typical characters are for costumes or decorations one thing is for sure, it makes for a spookier holiday. It only makes sense that having the story of these supernatural types in films create a great feeling of fear and fun Halloween spirit! Today’s Movie Monday is another Halloween appropriate classic movie for October. I am reviewing the 1932 edition of The Mummy starring Boris Karloff. It would seem to me that Boris Karloff had the knack of creating legendarily scary characters. Not too long before becoming the mummy, Karloff…
