Kate Spade Fall 2019
Kate Spade does it again! It is easy to see the fall 2019 runway collection that was shown at New York Fashion Week took huge inspiration from the spring/summer collection that was shown last year. The fashion stands out and somehow also pays tribute to style of eras gone by. The 1960’s vibes are strong with the head scarf and the lightly flared pant designs. I love the look or straight down and flared pants. This retro look is something I have been championing since the beginning of Faintly Familiar and one I will probably always wear even when the runways decide to ditch the look. A lot of fall…

Movie Monday: Born Yesterday (1950)
Although this film is considered a drama, Born Yesterday can still be considered one of the best love stories in cinema history (and just in time for Valentine’s Day!). Judy Holiday and William Holden make quite this couple in this classic film! Today’s Movie Monday is dedicated to Born Yesterday! The way I see it, Born Yesterday is a love story but more importantly a film about female empowerment. Judy Holiday’s character, Billie, in this movie has been told her whole life that she wasn’t smart enough or overall good enough to do any better than the abusive, mobster Harry Brock who she is living with. This mantra held Billie…

My Night in the Press Box
In the last almost four semesters that I have been studying at the University of Illinois one of the most important things that I have learned is to take chances. Now, I am not telling you to get too risky or to start breaking laws. I am just simply saying that when the opportunity to try a new food or visit a new place presents itself you should take it. This semester I am expanding my own horizons by taking two journalism classes, and the writer in me is loving it! For my Journalism 210 class I had the awesome opportunity of getting to experience spend a night covering an…

Movie Monday: Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House (1948)
Today, I wanted to review one of my favorite comedies! Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House is a Cary Grant and Myrna Loy classic! Watching this movie I always get a good laugh so I thought it was time we share a laugh together! Nobody can play a humdrum, miserable man like Cary Grant! I’m not trying to say he is a boring actor, anyone who has seen his films should know he definitely is not, but I am saying that this man is talented. Naturally, Grant has a lot of swagger to how he goes about his business so when he is casted in films like this one he…

Movie Monday: Harvey (1950)
I haven’t done many reviews of James Stewart’s classic films, but that is about to change today! One of my all-time favorite movies that he starred in was the 1950 film Harvey. Let’s dive a little deeper into what made this movie so special to audiences everywhere. If you haven’t ever watched the film Harvey before (which I highly recommend that you do), basically this movie is about how James Stewart’s character seems to have either escaped reality through the form of befriending an imaginary rabbit that stands six feet tall or this bunny (who is named Harvey) is very real and is here to show everyone involved that life…

A Classic Black Turtleneck
Is there anything more chic than a black turtle neck? There is a reason this seemingly simple piece of clothing remains within the ever-changing fashion industry as one that everyone finds attractive. Thanks to the incredible Audrey Hepburn we now consider a black turtleneck a closet essential! Over the years, the color black has proven itself to be the only color in fashion that will never truly go out of style. Yes, you may have the color of the year be a peach or emerald, but if you are wearing an all black ensemble you are immediately seen as someone who is “in the know” so to speak. That is…

Movie Monday: My Man Godfrey (1936)
Recently, I watched My Man Godfrey for the first time. I knew immediately that I wanted to write a review on this film! The way that Carole Lombard and William Powell were able to portray their characters so perfectly that even to this day we still consider their performances amazing proves how talent they both were. After watching The Thin Man (another William Powell classic), I must say that I prefer Powell’s performance in My Man Godfrey. As controversial as this may seem, the way he was able to play the hard luck, bum the way he did really shows me his talents as an actor. Creating a wealthy, humorous…

My Favorite Sherpa Pullover
Sherpa has become one of the trendiest materials of this winter! Sherpa can be found in numerous formats, but personal favorite is the pullover. I have a couple of different sherpa pullovers (because they are so warm and cozy), but the pullover I am going to talk about in this blog post is my personal favorite. Why is this one so special? Well, it is such a pretty mix of colors let’s just start out with that. Not to mention it has pockets (which is an all too rare quality in women’s clothing), this pullover is such a wintertime classic! If you don’t already own something that is sherpa related,…

Why Duck Boots are a Winter Wardrobe Essential
I am not over exaggerating when I say this, if you don’t have a pair of duck boots already you have got to go get a pair today! They are so perfect for casual outfits in the wintertime, and no matter what the weather is they will get you through it! These boots even made it on my “A Few of My Favorite Things” list for winter 2018/19! Duck boots have gotten me through the sludge of fading away snow and puddles of rain. There is no other pair of shoes that are more reliable this time of year. Sometimes I see ladies where rain boots in the snow and…
