Movie Monday: Jungle All the Way (1996)
Today’s Movie Monday is not going that far back in our film time machine. The holiday classic being featured this week is Jingle All the Way from 1996. There are a lot of iconic moments that have come from this movie, however, Jingle All the Way doesn’t always seem to make the list for must see movies for the holiday season. I think the measure of a good holiday themed movie is one that has a story that can stand outside of the season it is put into. So, without the holidays, would Jingle All the Way be as good or memorable? My answer is yes, I think it would…

Staying warm and winter weather gear in general has been on my mind a lot lately. When it comes to clothing, there are several must have items I have learned help to survive the winter. Since I have has to learn with trial by error, I want to save everyone here in the Faintly Familiar Family the trouble of going through the same thing. This blog post is a list of the different items that I rely on to get me through the cold months. Some items seem more obvious than others, however, all of these are absolutely must have! A Thermal Beanie If it were not for thermal beanies,…

Movie Monday: The Shop Around the Corner (1940)
The month of December is here which means the marathon of holiday film reviews will begin! Today’s special holiday edition of Movie Monday is focused on The Shop Around the Corner starring Margaret Sullavan and James Stewart. Although the lines between whether this movie is a Valentine’s Day film or a Christmas movie, I am team holiday film with this one! So, here we go! Last year was the first time I watched The Shop Around the Corner for the holiday film list, and instantly it became one of the must see movies of the season! I am not sure why, but it sure seems that James Stewart had a…

What I Wore for Thanksgiving 2019
Big family occasions call for the right outfit. I think we can all agree that the holidays become extra special once everyone is in the same room, and lots of photos ensue. Today I want to share what I wore for Thanksgiving 2019, and how a simple outfit can sometimes be the right choice to keep that timeless vibe. If you have been reading Faintly Familiar for any amount of time, you will recognize the coat I decided to sport for this very special holiday. Peacoats are a weakness of mine. They always look classy, put together, and depending on whether or not the peacoat has a print it can…

Movie Monday: Strangers on a Train (1951)
Movie Mondays have covered several different genres of film, actors, and directors in the time this series has ran. However, there is one director who Movie Monday has not highlighted quick enough. That legendary director is Alfred Hitchcock. This week’s Movie Monday is all about the classic film Stranger on a Train. The most important part of this movie is the plot. There are no superstar, celebrity actors starring in this Hitchcock classic and that really helps to keep the focus on the storyline in this movie. Another reason it was crucial to the plot of Strangers on a Train to not have any well known actors is because there…

A Must Have Item for Winter 2019-2020
Out with the old and in with the new is the song of the winter season it seems. Turtlenecks never really go out of style when it comes to a winter wardrobe, however, they do take on many different variations depending the current trends. This winter 2019-2020 season is seeing a resurgence in the mock turtleneck! I’m not the biggest fan of the traditionally tall turtleneck, but I love a good mock turtleneck. Matter of a fact, mock turtlenecks have been a small part of my layering wardrobe ever since I could remember! If you are looking to invest in some cute layering options, mock turtlenecks are the perfect go-to…

The Trendy Glasses Shape of 2019 & 2020
The photos in this blog post are going to be a bit strange to my Faintly Familiar Family because they will be seeing me in an unusually form. Today I am wearing glasses. Yes, the frames are my prescription based frames and a style choice occasionally. I’m a bit of a free spirit so generally I like the freedom of wearing contacts, however, I do feel like a cute pair of glasses frames can really go a long way in making your outfit look cute. Even if they are not prescription based glasses, just a fashionable pair of frames can really be the perfect accessory! With the wide variety of…

Movie Monday: Laura (1944)
There has only been one Gene Tierney film that I have ever reviewed here on Faintly Familiar. But that is all about to change today! This Movie Monday is featuring the Tierney fanbase classic called Laura. This will come as a shock to a lot of Gene Tierney fans, but I do not love the film Laura. Although it does highlight some unique aspects of Tierney’s acting abilities, Laura does not hold the attention of an audience well enough for me. The plot is not well conceived and there is things are happening before the viewer can even decipher the entire situation. Laura is a noir film, so I do…

The Ponytail Beanie
Where I live, we have already has two pretty decent snows and the temperature has dropped below freezing. Naturally this means that it is time to break out all of the winter gear we have despite it still being technically the fall season. However, with all of the basics being covered, there still needs to be some innovation in your seasonal wardrobe once in a while. Enter, the ponytail beanie. Last winter I saw this style of beanie here and there, but it was quite the trend that it is this season. The nice part about having a ponytail beanie is that it keeps your hair from getting tangled in…

Movie Monday: The More the Merrier (1943)
There are a few boy meets girl films out there that remain forever a classic. Romance movies are sometimes even the ones that first pop into our minds. Meanwhile, there are other classic romance films that are forgotten by the popular culture which is such a shame. The More the Merrier is one of those forgotten films, and one that I would like to bring back to light in today’s Movie Monday! Jean Arthur stars alongside Joal McCrea in The More the Merrier to create one of the most underrated classic romantic comedies of all-time. Now, you already know that I am a pretty big fan of the Frank Capra…
