Flamin-go Big or Go Home
There are a whole lot of flamingos this summer! Everywhere you look it seems that a flamingo theme will be there whether it’s home decor, fashion, or fun trinkets. Today I am going to take a deeper look into this phenomenon and dissect why this is happening in 2019 instead of any other year. I would say that a major reason the flamingo has gotten such a popularity boost is because of this year’s Met Gala theme. Camp was the confusing and exciting theme for the 2019 Met Gala, and we saw celebrities go all out for this over the top aesthetic. Flamingos are flamboyant creatures, ones that really stand…

Movie Monday: My Reputation (1946)
Today I want to put a spotlight on a classic film that is often times over looked. This week’s Movie Monday is all about the 1946 film My Reputation starring Barbara Stanwyck. Not only does this movie have a lot to say about the social stigma that comes along with remarrying after the loss of a spouse, but it also says a lot about handling criticism from the public. Barbara Stanwyck is possibly the perfect actress in all of film history to fit the role as a leading lady in My Reputation. No one else could have the same steely determination that Stanwyck displays in this film. This character must…

The Perfect Mid-July Dress
One way to beat the heat in the summertime is to wear something comfortable, and one item in my summer wardrobe that always keeps me relaxed is a good summer dress! Nothing looks more like you tried really hard to dress up than a dress, but the beauty in this outfit is dresses are so easy you don’t even have to put on pants! The dress I am wearing here is what I would describe as the perfect mid-July dress. Not only are the colors perfect for a 4th of July celebration, but it also fits within the bright colors that are typically found this time of year. Personally I…

How to Curl Your Hair Using a Flat Iron
Two of the most requested blog posts for Faintly Familiar have been for my skincare routine which I already wrote about, and how I curl my hair! My go-to hairstyle is curling it with a flat iron, and I use this tool as my main resource for a lot of reasons which I will address in this post. Although it has taken me a while to getting around to write this post, I am excited to be featuring this long awaited subject today! So here we go! This is how I curl my hair with a flat iron. Step #1 The best way to protect your hair from heat applied…

Designers That Changed Fashion: Hubert de Givenchy
Continuing the series of “Designers That Changed Fashion”, I am highlighting a famous designer who is loved by many. Hubert de Givenchy created some of the most timeless designs that we all still love and appreciate even to this day. However, I have a few thoughts as to how Givenchy differentiated himself from everyone else. Some of the most iconic looks of any film or character have been designer by Hubert de Givenchy. Remember Breakfast at Tiffanies? Of course, it helped that he had a fabulous model in Audrey Hepburn to help him get his name into the films and to slowly become the face of his brand. However, in…

Benefit BADgal BANG Mascara Review
Full disclosure here, this review is not sponsored in any way at all. This is just me being more excited about trying a new mascara than any normal person should be, and I really wanted to share my thoughts on the product. I am not going to pretend that I am a makeup guru and Faintly Familiar has never been much of a place for discussing makeup, but I do like to play around with different brands and items within the beauty industry. Now, I am not very skilled at makeup in general, but I always find myself drawn to mascaras and their many promises for longer and more full…

Movie Monday: The Young Philadelphians (1959)
For today’s Movie Monday I am reviewing a film with a movie star that I have yet to review here on Faintly Familiar — Paul Newman! The Young Philadelphians was a film I just happen to stumble into watching and I am so glad that I did because I have been wanting to review a Paul Newman film for quite some time. So without further ado, here is my review! The Young Philadelphians is one of the rare films that appeared in a difficult time era for the movie scene, in my opinion. I have found that films took a bit of a break in being high quality from the…

The Floral & Lace T-Shirt
Is there anything cuter or more effortless for summer fashion than throwing on a t-shirt? One of my favorite go-to summer styles is a t-shirt and shorts. Well, every once in a while you gotta have a statement t-shirt to spruce things up, and that is exactly what I have today! Floral is an absolute summer and spring staple for any wardrobe, while lace is a lot of the time left for special occasions. With this t-shirt I am combining both of these styles to create something typical, yet timeless and elegant. The lace trim is one of my favorites aspects of this t-shirt because it is just to unique…

The Exposed Buttons Trend
For a while now I have been seeing a ton of buttons! By that I mean when you go shopping there are a lot of cute pairs of shorts and jeans that are taking part in the exposed buttons trend. This trend has gained some traction during the summer, but I am seeing it as more of a fall and winter trend. The exposed buttons trend is one to keep an eye out for during the upcoming fall season, but if you are like me and you cannot wait that long there are a bunch of really cute shorts that have these buttons. Old Navy has a great selection to…

Grandma and Grandpa’s 65th Anniversary Party
This July 4th was extra special for my Grandma and Grandpa McFarland this year! First, they were the Grand Marshals of the local 4th of July parade. Second, our family threw them a fun 65th wedding anniversary party! This is, of course, a very unique milestone to hit so we took this as an opportunity to celebrate! My mom did all of the heavy lifting when it came to planning the party for my grandparents, but when she needed our help to put together the decorations the day of the party we all stepped up to help out! We got a big “6” and “5” number ballots for photos and…
