• Red, White, & Fabulous!

Similar to my look: Top         Shorts This year has absolutely flown by! I can’t believe it was the fourth of July! (Yes, I did mean to rhyme) I decided to sport a tank this year with a pink/red tint to it and a unstructured peplum bottom. Coupled with cutoff, denim shorts and I was ready to roll! It was a rather hot fourth of July this year here in the Midwest, so the sleeveless look kept me as cool as a cucumber. This look works for way more than just the fourth of July, though. It would be a stunning ensemble to a picnic, family outing,…

  • 4th of July 2018

It was one jam-packed fourth of July for my family and I this year! This was the third year in a row that I have walked in the fourth of July parade in Oakwood, Illinois. This year was extra special because it was the first time my Mom and I have had the opportunity to walk alongside our fellow Governor Bradford NSDAR members! Some of the Governor Bradford Chapter NSDAR members getting ready for the parade! We handed out little United States flags to the kids along the parade route. The children would get a little glimmer of excitement in their eye when they saw us coming along to hand out flags. They…

  • The Summer Floral Trend

Photos taken by Darla Sigmon (@mcsig96 on Instagram) I have never been much of a print girl, but this summer it would seem I am wearing lot more of at least one print. Normally, I like a solid color top with some denim shorts or something else simple and classic, but the floral trend bug has bitten me. Florals are HUGE this summer! You really cannot go shopping without seeing at least one flower on some sort of piece of clothing! The floral trend is so different than most other prints. Every summer it seems like there is at least one kind of print that takes over, but with florals…

  • Movie Monday: The Women (1939)

These photos are not mine. If you love fashion as much as I do, and that is a whole lot, this is a must see film!! Although The Women fails the “Bechdel Test” because all of the women in this film pretty much always end up talking about the allusive “Steve” who never appears on screen, this is still a triumphant film for women! The cast was ALL FEMALE! Right down to the animals that appear in the movie. Some of the most glamorous women of the 1930s starred together in The Women and went on to create a cinematic masterpiece!! These photos are not mine. One of my favorite actresses, Norma Shearer, wore…

  • Floral Romper by Candie’s

Photos taken by Darla Sigmon (@mcsig96 on Instagram) Similar to my look: Romper      Necklace Kohl’s is hands down one of my favorite places to shop, and this romper is a great example as to why! When I saw this adorable black romper with light pink flowers, excitement shot right through me! The slight bell sleeves that go to my elbows, and the lightweight fabric are just two of the reasons this romper is a hidden gem. The Candie’s brand consistently creates pieces that are on trend, yet timeless! With this romper, it flatters the body in all of the right places without being too revealing. Because of the…

  • Fran Fine’s Fine Style

For more of Fran Fine’s fashion, follow @whatfranwore on Instagram! *These photos are not mine.* It’s time to reflect on one of my favorite funny ladies: Fran Fine of The Nanny! I know this isn’t a film, but I had to put it in the Classic Cinema section because to me this show is definitely a classic! Even though this show ran throughout the 90’s, Fran Drescher’s style is pretty contemporary. The crop tops, the geometric shapes, the mini skirts, and the many times she wore the complementary color of black. Fran was way ahead of her time in fashion! These photos are not mine. We have seen the fashion industry catchup…

  • Audrey Hepburn & Givenchy’s Unique Relationship

Many people would agree that Audrey Hepburn is one of the most stylish women to ever live. The major question that plagued Audrey’s career was did she make Givenchy or did Givenchy make Audrey? These photos are not mine. Where did their iconic relationship begin? It started before Audrey’s silver screen hits and Givenchy’s fantastic runway shows. Their professional relationship lasted from 1954-1987, covering seven films for Audrey to be draped in some of the most glamorous designs in all of movie history. One of the most amazing things about clothes is how they can sometimes, with the right mixture of passion and magic, become a moment. Yes, an entire moment.…

  • Movie Monday: The Wizard of Oz (1939)

These photos are not mine. Okay, I know what you are thinking. “Sarah, why would you pick The Wizard of Oz this Monday when the characters don’t even change their style at all the entire film?” Let me explain. You see The Wizard of Oz has been a very understated and influential film for fashion. Plus, who doesn’t love a movie about magical shoes? Because of its unique mix of black and white and one of the earliest uses of technicolor, The Wizard of Oz has become way more than just a classic piece of cinema. The slew of merchandise dedicated to this film alone marks it as one of the most famous and easily recognizable…

  • The Maxi Romper

Photos taken by Darla Sigmon (@mcsig96 on Instagram) Similar to my look: Romper         Wedges   This little, not-so-little number has it all! Nothing says summer like a romper, especially when it has the added drama of what I like to think of as a cape! (Honesty, it could be called something else, but I am not sure and I am not going to guess. It makes me feel like Wonder Woman so I am going with the whole cape idea.) This style of romper has been all the rage since last fall, and although we had a cold winter here in the Midwest, I have been…
