• Chanel Fall 2019 Ready-to-Wear|Farewell to Karl Lagerfeld

With the passing of the legendary designer Karl Lagerfeld, Chanel faces a whole new frontier. Lagerfeld gave us many designs to enjoy throughout his career, however, I can’t help but feel like this runway in particular will serve as a kind of endless winter inspiration for some time to come. The runway sets have always been spectacular, and Lagerfeld never disappointed those who were in attendance. But this runway perfectly sums up modern ski lodge attire. We are used to thinking of ski lodge ensembles in a retro light, but this collection really summed up a new approach. I really like how these dresses and all of the outfits were…

  • Embroidered Floral Details for Spring 2019

One of the consistencies I have seen on all of the runways for fall 2019 has been a mix of several different prints. Some of those prints are of the floral variety while also including the occasional embroidery detail. Therefore, I began thinking now would be the perfect time to breakout this pastel embroidered sweater! Since the official beginning of spring is right around the corner and coats will no longer be necessary, there is no better time to show off these cute little flowers! Embroidery has swept across the fashion industry for the past couple of seasons, and floral has made a real comeback too. Spring is the perfect…

  • Christian Dior Fall 2019 Ready-to-Wear Collection

With today’s Runway Review we see a return to 90’s street style! The consistent bucket hats are very reminiscent of 90’s fashion, however, I would say these are much more tame in terms of prints being used. I like how Dior used some of their most classic silhouettes for dresses and gowns for this runway. Typically we see fashion houses lazy attempts to be retro when it comes off a little cheap. However, these Dior throwbacks are simply stunning with all of their old time charm, but with just the right amount of modernity. The different prints used for this runway are particularly what remind me of the 90’s besides…

  • Etro Fall 2019 Ready-to-Wear Collection

A new take on a classic preppy style is the feeling I get from the brand new Etro fall 2019 collection. This runway particularly stood out to me because of how different it was in tone. There is something distinctly academic looking to this collection. I simply love the use of velvet and different textures used in this runway. From bags and belts to the tights that the models wore, the accessories paired with all of these looks gave so much more dimension to the entire collection. There is also a very loose feeling to these fall looks. The colors scream changing leaves, but the fit of these designs are…

  • Dolce & Gabbana Fall 2019 Ready-to-Wear Collection

With over one hundred ensembles shown in this Dolce & Gabbana runway, this collection was both vast and, at times, a bit eccentric. There was no clear influence upon this collection, from what I can tell. The only significant thread connecting each of these pieces is a sense of showmanship. Volume, volume, and more volume is the take away from Dolce & Gabbana. Don’t be surprised if in fall 2019 red carpets are dominated by voluminous dress. This rise of bold silhouettes reminds me of the bygone 1800’s era. All of these large details tend to say “notice me”. This is a striking departure from what we have seen on…

  • A Black Marble Sweater

The sweater I am going to be talking about today has quickly become one of my favorite sweaters of all-time! It is the perfect mix of warm and cool, and it has a super cute pattern near the neckline. Above all, the marble style of is really what makes this sweater a home run for me! I have never seen a marble style sweater before this one! The tiny white flecks look so sophisticated to me and it works for all kinds of different accessories. If you read my post about scarves, you have already seen this sweater and all of the super cute ways to style it. Honestly, I…

  • Erdem Fall 2019 Ready-to-Wear Collection

Erdem continues to amaze me! This fall 2019 collection was a complete package of classic, unique, fashion forward, and bold. The prints used throughout this runway show were tastefully arranged which is amazing considering how quickly a loud floral print like this one could quickly become curtain material. The bright blues are STUNNING! I love neon colors and they only get better when paired with classic basics like black tights. I also love how Erdem used fascinators, pillbox hats, and headbands to accessorize and modernize elements of classic fashion. I can’t ignore how amazing the textures are in the materials used in this collection either. The materials and prints used…

  • Alberta Ferretti Fall 2019 Ready-to-Wear Collection

Wow. All I can say is wow. This collection is a jaw dropping! If I had to wear one runway collection for the rest of my life, it would be this one. All of the boxes are checked in my book with these designs. The colors, the hint of western inspiration, and the overall sophistication. I like to think that this collection came out of the inspiration of a trailblazing woman who takes on the city like a rebel from the old west only a lot prettier. The fabric is what really makes this collection so cohesive. None of it is too over the top, even the shinny suit in…

  • Oh the Many Scarves of Winter

If you have been reading Faintly Familiar for some time now, you know that winter fashion and all of its accessories have become one of my favorite times of the year to get all dressed up (despite the weather)! I say the more layers, the more fashion! Today I want to share a few of my favorite scarves that have been in heavy use this season! This long Steve Madden scarf is so easy to wrap around a cute sweater like this winter print one. It adds just that much more warmth and has become the perfect complement to any outfit. I also love this long scarf because of the…

  • Victoria Beckham Fall 2019 Ready-to-Wear Collection

I’m going to be honest, Victoria Beckham runways are not typically one that I look forward to. I find her designs to be somewhat boring and unoriginal. This collection didn’t blow my socks off by any means, but Victoria Beckham did pleasantly surprise me with these designs. One of the reasons I am usually no enthusiastic about Victoria Beckham runways is because I just know what her color pallet will be. She never varies from only a limited number of shades and this collection was not an exception. That was a little disappointing to me. However, I could tell she tried to step-up her game in some interesting ways. The…
