Runway Reviews

  • Alberta Ferretti Fall 2019 Ready-to-Wear Collection

Wow. All I can say is wow. This collection is a jaw dropping! If I had to wear one runway collection for the rest of my life, it would be this one. All of the boxes are checked in my book with these designs. The colors, the hint of western inspiration, and the overall sophistication. I like to think that this collection came out of the inspiration of a trailblazing woman who takes on the city like a rebel from the old west only a lot prettier. The fabric is what really makes this collection so cohesive. None of it is too over the top, even the shinny suit in…

  • Victoria Beckham Fall 2019 Ready-to-Wear Collection

I’m going to be honest, Victoria Beckham runways are not typically one that I look forward to. I find her designs to be somewhat boring and unoriginal. This collection didn’t blow my socks off by any means, but Victoria Beckham did pleasantly surprise me with these designs. One of the reasons I am usually no enthusiastic about Victoria Beckham runways is because I just know what her color pallet will be. She never varies from only a limited number of shades and this collection was not an exception. That was a little disappointing to me. However, I could tell she tried to step-up her game in some interesting ways. The…

  • Michael Kors Fall 2019

I’m going to be honest here. This collection from Michael Kors was unlike anything we had ever seen from him before. Normally, Kors keeps it pretty simple, sleek, and clean. This collection saw a complete 180, and what his unique sense of retro was. This New York Fashion Week provided a lot of modern takes on retro which is fun and also sometimes a little distracting. Although you all know I love a good throwback, I felt like this particular collection was a bit messy. The overuse of mixing prints and just how loud some of them were really made this collection feel heavy. Now, there is nothing wrong in…

  • Ralph Lauren’s Spring 2019 Ready-to-Wear Collection

Of all of the collections that were shown at New York Fashion Week, Ralph Lauren’s may be the most sophisticated one of all. The set signed what like a little world of its own. It was a very aesthetically pleasing collection filled with a timeless color pallet. However wonder the set and most of these designs were, for a ready-to-wear collection there were only truly a few of these designs that were read for a night on the town or a day in the office. The evening gowns, jumpsuits, and a couple of suits were definitely ready for some real life action. But the majority of these looks were not…

  • Kate Spade Fall 2019

Kate Spade does it again! It is easy to see the fall 2019 runway collection that was shown at New York Fashion Week took huge inspiration from the spring/summer collection that was shown last year. The fashion stands out and somehow also pays tribute to style of eras gone by. The 1960’s vibes are strong with the head scarf and the lightly flared pant designs. I love the look or straight down and flared pants. This retro look is something I have been championing since the beginning of Faintly Familiar and one I will probably always wear even when the runways decide to ditch the look. A lot of fall…

  • Neil Barrett Fall 2019 for Men

Although Neil Barrett isn’t the household name that Calvin Klein or Ralph Lauren is, I believe someday he will be. The collection he showed for men’s fall fashion 2019 was stunning. Earlier I discussed how men’s fashion this year will be a lot about including basic colors to really make one aspect of the outfit stand out. This collection supports this whole belief. This collection really makes the print/picture of what I can only assume is Tokyo stand out. I love how this whole runway combines elements of something classic with futuristic details. The colorful vibes from the collection is also another element from these deigns that are pretty rare…

  • Men’s Dolce & Gabbana Fall 2019

Once again we see men’s fashion focus their attention to the timeless suit. However, this kind of suit is much more relaxed in the fitting and they are often teamed up with sneakers. We also see that, yet again, accessories are king. Lots of layers are on the runway for men’s fall 2019, and we see the bowtie making a comeback after what seemed like a longtime of the regular time dominating fashion. However, Dolce & Gabbana’s runway has a lot more prints! When I say prints I mean loud, miss matched ones! The kind that makes you wonder if this person knows what they are doing or not. Somehow…

  • Brioni Fall 2019

It would seem a new kind of men’s fashion is going to make a big run in 2019. This new style includes the fall color pallet I suggested for men back last fall! It also appears that a lot of the styles we will be seeing men wear in 2019 is inspired by Jeff Goldblum’s somewhat eccentric fashion. It’s evident in the thick rimmed glasses and slightly oversized suits that are making an appearance within the Brioni fall 2019 collection. Altogether, this is definitely a Faintly Familiar and Sarah Sigmon approved style! I love when designers take simple styles or colors and put them together with a fun texture. The…

  • Louis Vuitton Spring/Summer 2019

Louis Vuitton is creating a whole new kind of street style chic! Chock full of puffy sleeves and western style ankle boots, there is nothing that is off limits with this new kind of casual style! These photos are not mine. In the wide world of high fashion, Louis Vuitton is a leading figure. Decked out in newly styled and fresh street chic designs, this runway was both reflective and futuristic. The main difference between this runway and the Balenciaga runway is that the tones of 80s throwback were nowhere to be found. This is strictly a fashion forward runway. Louis Vuitton gave us a mix of city chic, wild…

  • Chanel Spring/Summer 2019

Chanel took their classic style to the seaside this season! It served up some fresh, vacation ready inspiration for next summer as well as setting some cool trends in the makeup department. Chanel also transformed their classic tweed suits just for the day on the beach! I simply love this look above! Basically what Chanel is trying to say is that a Chanel girl can make even a burlap bag look good if the name Chanel is on it. Photos by Vogue If you have never worn Chanel to the beach before, don’t worry you are not alone. Chanel is being taken places it has never been before! No other runway this…
