How to Wear the Neon Trend This Spring
Months and months ago I predicted that neon was slowly becoming one of the trendiest color schemes of fall 2018. At the time I didn’t know it, but I was also predicting one of the biggest trends of spring 2019, too! I know that pastel is typically the colors that come to mind when you think of spring fashion, but I am here to say that there is most certainly plenty of room in the colorful spring market for more bold shades. Today, I want to expand on that prediction by talking a little bit about how you can incorporate neon into your spring wardrobe. #1. Try a bright version…

Moms Weekend 2019
This past weekend was Moms Weekend on the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign campus, and it was sadly my brother’s (he is a senior) final year to celebrate. Today I wanted to share a little bit of what we did this Moms Weekend and how we kept a family tradition going strong. I know that typically the weekend is for catching up on sleep, but for the past five years we have volunteered for Campus and Community Day that just happens to fall on Moms Weekend. So we got up early to go put labels on packages that would later be filled with rice and oats and given to folks who…

Movie Monday: How to Marry a Millionaire (1953)
One of the best girl squad films of all time has to be How to Marry a Millionaire! This film is also one of my favorites because of the beautiful fashion we see. How to Marry a Millionaire is a movie that capitalizes on the color film era using fashion! These leading ladies in this film are department store models, and we see some truly beautiful designs. Not only are the colors striking, but the shape of each design are a mix of luxurious and simple. All of the looks we see in How to Marry a Millionaire are very much of the 1950’s time! Despite the storyline of this…

The “Bee Kind” Sweatshirt & Cute Designs
Today I am here to share another fashion trend that I have noticed a lot of here lately. As you can see, this sweatshirt looks pretty ordinary except for the one little detail near my shoulder. This little stitch detailing is what sold me on this top which I found at Old Navy. Over the past several weeks I have seen a number different types of sweatshirts that have all kinds of fun details in the same spot! This is an up and coming trend for the springtime and potentially in fall 2019. Definitely keep this trend idea in mine when shopping for clothes this season. I have seen several…

A Few of My Favorite Things Spring 2019
The “A Few of My Favorite Things” series here on Faintly Familiar is always a highlight for me each new season! Springtime brings a flurry of different accessories and products to use that just do not get their time to shine in the winter or fall. Today, I want to share a few of the things that will be getting plenty of use from me. The Illinois Ball Cap This week I shared the ball cap that I will be wearing most this summer which you can see in the photo above. The state themed ball cap trend has gained some speed this spring, but I have had this particular…

My Go-To Ball Cap this Summer
A the sun begins to peak around the clouds of winter, there are a few options for protecting your eyes. The most common prescription to sunny days are sunglasses, however, every now and then you will see someone wearing a ball cap. I typically do not wear ball caps or hats outside of wintertime beanies, but for those bad hair days there is really no better alternative. With the changing weather and windy days, I have found myself reaching for a ball cap more and more. Enter in my new favorite ball cap. This Illinois (my home state) hat I surprisingly found at Walmart. I wasn’t really looking for a…

The Color of 2019
Last November, Pantone announced there annual color of the year and 2019’s color is called “Living Coral”! This shade of coral had, from what I can tell, undertones of peach and red. Although this color may not be my favorite (let’s be honest, I would prefer a pink of some kind :)), I can definitely see where “Living Coral” can be used in fashion. Recently, I found this sweater at Old Navy and it reminded me of the “Living Coral” color! Besides adding that pop of color that winter wardrobes often times need, this bright shade can also provide a lot of versatility to how you layer sweaters. This Old…

Movie Monday: Dark Passage (1947)
A drama that has stood the test of time is Dark Passage! This one of the iconic Bogie and Bacall films, and an intense one at that. All of these elements are the reason why Dark Passage is such a perfect fit for Movie Monday! One of the best aspects of Dark Passage is the cinematography choices they made. A large portion of this film is viewed from Humphrey Bogart’s point of view. Everything is seen through his eyes and from his perspective. This was what initially drew me into this movie. The artistic choice to not show the leading man’s face was a bold move. Eventually Bogart does show…

How Polka Dots & Yellow are the Micro-Trends of Spring 2019
Something that I have been noticing a lot of recently is the random emergence of polka dots. They can be found in so many different places and they have become something of a kind of micro-trend. A lot of fashionable ladies have embraced the polka dots for spring 2019 trend, and I have now too! Polka dots have always been one of my favorite prints and let’s be honest, they never truly go out of style. But there are times when we see more of this pattern than other moments in fashion. Right now it is really ganging steam and it could be a trend that very well lasts into…

The Lug Bag
The summer travel season will be here before we know it, and spring break vacations have already began in many places. Thinking about traveling anywhere, even if it is just a day trip, always makes me wonder what kind of bag I should bring along with me. It constantly feels like while on a trip/vacation that there is way more that you need or want to carry in a bag. The more I need to carry, the more pockets I need on my bag. Well, in pursuit of the perfect bag for trips and a vacation (and just in time for all of the fun to begin) I have found…
